Renting a house vs. an apartment?

I'm looking to live in the area for only a year and decided renting is my best option. As far as a credit check goes, most rentals are through a realtor. I got approved instantly for an apartment with no deposit but ended up finding a house I liked for the same price monthly. Is the credit check different for a home or is renting the same across the board?
